CURVE — Training of Trainers

Course for Understanding Radicalization into Violent Extremism — an intensive two-week ToT programme designed to produce skilled PCVE trainers for East Africa and beyond

About the Course

The Course for Understanding Radicalization into Violent Extremism (CURVE) is an intensive two-week Training of Trainers (ToT) jointly delivered by the HORN International Institute for Strategic Studies and the Center for Sustainable Conflict Resolution (CSCR), Nairobi, Kenya. The programme is designed to produce a cadre of skilled, knowledgeable trainers capable of delivering high-quality Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) training in their own professional and community contexts.

Spanning ten comprehensive modules, CURVE equips participants with both the substantive expertise and the pedagogical tools needed to understand, analyse, and respond effectively to the threat of violent extremism – with particular attention to dynamics in the Horn of Africa region. A distinctive feature of the course is direct field exposure to Islamic institutions and engagement with Muslim religious leaders, grounding conceptual learning in real community contexts. Participants leave with a Training Manual, expert presentations, and multimedia resources, along with a completed PVE/CVE Action Plan ready to deploy in their home organisations

Teaching Methods

CURVE adopts a multi-modal, learner-centred instructional approach. As a Training of Trainers, the course models the very methods participants are expected to apply when they return to their own training contexts
