The year 2024 marked a turbulent chapter for the Horn of Africa, as the region grappled with escalating geopolitical tensions and persistent internal strife. Sudan’s spiraling conflict and humanitarian crisis, coupled with intensifying rivalries over the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, placed the region at a critical juncture in global security dynamics. Ethiopia’s internal divisions,
Somalia’s ongoing battle with insurgencies, and South Sudan’s fragile peace processes
further underscored the region’s volatility. These challenges, compounded by external
powers’ strategic maneuvers, demanded nuanced analysis and decisive policy engagement
core pillars of the HORN International Institute for Strategic Studies’ mission.
