Regional Significance
Kenya is a key regional actor in East Africa and the Horn of Africa, serving as a major commercial, technological, and logistical hub. Nairobi also acts as a key diplomatic hub, hosting major United Nations offices and other international organisations. Through the Port of Mombasa, the country functions as the principal maritime gateway for landlocked states in the region. It also plays an active role in regional mediation and peace and security processes across the Horn and Great Lakes regions.
