Lenga Ugaidi na Talanta is an initiative that seeks to channel youth creativity towards countering the violent extremist narrative. This is a short film, poetry, and music competition targeting Kenyan youth under 35 years in the fight against radicalization, violent extremism and terrorism. The first edition of the competition – held in July last year, 2017 – was a success attracting hundreds of youth across the country under one course of fighting violent extremism.
This year, the competition began in October 1, 2018 through to November 16, 2018. Public announcement of the winner was on December 5, 2018. The prizes included Ksh. 500,000 for the winner, Ksh. 250,000 for 1st runners-up, Ksh. 100,000 for 2nd runners-up, and a smartphone or laptop for the youngest entrant.
There were two additional categories this year, poetry and music, with the winning prizes at Ksh 100,000 per category.
