Center for Defense and Security
The Center for Defense and Security focuses on advancing strategic thinking on issues of defense and security in the Horn of Africa region. The Center conducts multi-disciplinary analysis of defense and security challenges and opportunities in the region. The Center also aims to strengthen the region’s defence and security by conducting relevant research that impact Horn countries through high-quality research and policy recommendations. The Center publishes its research and activities in manuals and books, holds workshops, seminars, conferences, round table discussions, consultative meetings, and media appearances.
The Center provides in-house expertise, scholars and practitioners on key issues in defense and security programmes.

Brig Gen (Rtd) George G Kabugi
Brig Gen (Rtd) George G Kabugi is a former army general in the rank of a brigadier. He has a diploma in International Studies from the University of Nairobi, diploma in Military Leadership Command and Management from Ft Knox (USA), certificates in National Security Courses (Israel), Advanced National Security Course (Israel), The Law of War ICRC Nairobi, and disaster preparedness and response. He also has certificates in Regional Senior Mission Leadership, Peace Support Operations (IPSTC) and Strategic Studies from National Defence College (NDC Kenya). He currently pursuing a degree in Public Policy and Administration at Kenyatta University. He specialises in defense and security, disaster management, military operations, International Law of Armed Conflict (ILAC), national security peace support operations, conflict resolution and critical analysis.
