37,000 Burundian refugees have returned home from Tanzania since January this year, making a total of 48,930 refugees repatriated since 2017. This is against the targeted 72,000 repatriations by December this year. This follows displacement of Burundians during the 2015/16 political crisis and violence. Related to this, Burundi expelled officials of the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) earlier this month. In escalated feud with the rights body, Burundi, voted against UNHRC’s resolution to allow human rights abuse investigations in Myanmar on September 27, 2018.
